Bates Monochrome Motel

As soon as I hear Bates Motel, I think of the creepy 1960's classic movie Psycho. It gives me chills just thinking about it. The story follows the life of a shy man named Norman who has an unusual relationship with his mom, which leads to him eventually becoming a serial killer. So ladies watch out for a momma's boy! The movie became so iconic that there is a remake  TV show of the story.

The fictional Bates Motel is in White Pine Bay, but the real motel (properly known as the Sunset Pacific Motel) is located here in LA, in the Silverlake neighborhood on Sunset Boulevard and Bates Avenue. In the Spring of 2015 it became home to the piece of art called ProjectionLA by artist Vincent Lamouroux. He covered the motel from top to bottom in lime wash, including a billboard on the property and even the palm tress surrounding it.

Even though it has lost a lot of its lustre, when you look at ProjectionLA it looks like a giant bottle of white-out was poured all over and it makes for the perfect photoshoot backdrop! For this look I decided to go for high drama and put together a strong monochrome ensemble. The structured lace blouse is by Self Portrait which has become the fashion bloggers sweetheart label and we are OBSESSED with it here at Katetik! (similar here).  I paired it with a bold monochrome stripe midi Topshop skirt (similar here) and threw on a pair of Aquazzura cutout lace sandals and a vintage Celine clutch. Great outfit for a great location!

Do you know of any cool movie locations whether in LA or elsewhere? Comment below!
